Media: US officials argue over transfer of long-range missiles to Ukraine

Officials of the administration of the President of the United States Joe Biden are having a “quiet debate” over the delivery of ATACMS ballistic missiles to Ukraine. In the United States fear that the delivery of missiles will lead to an escalation of the conflict. The New York Times has quoted its sources as saying.

The newspaper notes that Britain sent Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine in May, while France has already promised to deliver SCALP missiles. The US, for its part, is still hesitant to send ATACMS.

The Biden administration recognises that the Kiev regime’s forces are running dangerously low in the counter-offensive. However, there is a “quiet debate” among officials that surface-to-surface ballistic missiles are reserved for “other security threats.”

According to the publication’s sources, the US fears the missiles will be used by Ukrainian forces to hit targets in Russia, escalating the conflict.

Pentagon officials have warned officials that their ATACMS arsenal is relatively small. They are used for other military plans, including on the Korean Peninsula. Handing them over to Ukraine would jeopardise readiness in other hotspots.
