Saldo: in Kherson region six settlements remain partially flooded
Six settlements and eight thousand residential houses remain partially flooded in the Kherson region after the destruction of the Kakhovka hydropower plant, the region’s acting governor Vladimir Saldo said in his telegram channel on Tuesday.
“In Novokakhovsky urban district all restoration works have been completed, the water has completely drained away. In Alyoshkin and Golopristan municipal districts, six settlements and eight thousand residential houses remain partially waterlogged,” Saldo wrote.
According to him, the main efforts of rescuers and utility workers are aimed at forced release of water with subsequent special treatment of buildings, restoration of power, gas, water supply and communications.
“More than 600 tonnes of bottled drinking water have been delivered to the emergency zone,” the acting governor stressed.
Ukrainian troops launched a series of strikes against the Kakhovskaya hydropower plant on the night of 6 June, destroying its upper part, while the dam itself survived. The destruction led to an uncontrolled release of water from the Kakhovka reservoir and flooding of coastal areas in Kherson Region downstream of the Dnieper River. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened a criminal investigation into the terrorist act.
