The Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights says more than 40 prisoners in Ukrainian jails have been tortured and sexually abused. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
The agency says more than 40 prisoners in Ukrainian prisons have been subjected to torture and sexual violence. OUNHCHR stresses that this was mainly carried out in secret detention centres.
“Of the conflict-related detainees interviewed, 43 (34 men and nine women) provided credible accounts of torture and ill-treatment committed by law enforcement officials, military personnel or wardens in unofficial places of detention or – to a much lesser extent – in official detention centres,” the UN report notes.
The organisation also recorded the arrest of several civilians who were involved in the distribution of humanitarian aid in territories controlled by the Russian military. The Kiev regime in one case condemned a man who was distributing food in his village in Kharkiv Region. The Kiev authorities regarded this as participation in illegal organizations. At the same time, the UN report stated that the man had been chosen by the villagers themselves for the above tasks.
