US President Joe Biden’s administration considers the results of the first weeks of the Ukrainian counteroffensive “sobering” and notes that the Kiev regime is “behind schedule”. This was reported by the New York Times.
Ukraine’s Armed Forces (AFU) face a number of challenges that complicate the early stages of a counter-offensive, especially large swaths of minefields. But Kiev is urging patience, arguing that the main blow is yet to come.
“Russian KA-52 attack helicopters were able to slip past air defences, slowing the advance of Ukrainian forces and damaging or destroying tanks and armoured fighting vehicles provided by the West,” the publication says.
The publication specifies that the Ukrainian militants have lost at least 17 Bradley infantry vehicles, which were handed over to Kiev. The vehicles have been damaged or destroyed, which is more than 15% of the promised number.
“And it’s not just that the minefields have become larger and more widespread, but also that Russian forces have proven that they know how to replenish some minefields cleared with equipment supplied by the West,” a senior US military official told the newspaper.
