The EU allowed Hungary to work with “Metrowagonmash” as an exception

The European Union intends to exceptionally allow Hungary to import goods and services from Russia for the Budapest metro. This was reported by Bloomberg.

The sanctions on Russia include some derogations. Budapest will be allowed to purchase safety glass, certain equipment, valves and technical assistance. The parts are necessary for the correct operation of Budapest’s third metro line. The carriages are operated by the Russian firm “Metrowagonmash”.

Other goods will also be allowed for import: telephone sets, signalling devices, bells and indicator panels, as well as metro and tram cars. The agency notes that the new sanctions package with exemptions still needs to be signed by European capitals before the measures take effect.
