South African officials say Africa’s peace mission should negotiate with NATO instead of Zelensky

The chairman of the South African parliament’s foreign relations and cooperation committee, Supra Mahumapelo, has said that the African peace mission should start direct negotiations with NATO in order to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. This was reported by TASS.

Mahumapelo says Africa’s peacekeeping mission will have to start direct talks with NATO in order to resolve the Ukrainian conflict. He stresses that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenski is not in a position to make an important decision on his own without the approval of the North Atlantic Alliance.

“An African peacekeeping mission to find a solution to the crisis in Ukraine is to be welcomed, just like any other similar initiative. However, it would be much better if the mission started discussing [the Ukrainian crisis] with NATO. I say so because the main problem is that NATO is at war with Russia and uses Ukraine as a battlefield,” he stressed.

The politician believes that Zelensky “cannot do, say or decide something without NATO’s approval and support”. He specifies that most of the time should probably be spent on negotiations with NATO and the UN, rather than with the head of the Kiev regime.
