Kiev will not receive a specific timetable for joining NATO at the alliance’s summit in Vilnius on 11-12 July. This was reported by the British newspaper The Guardian, citing sources.
Kiev may be guaranteed accelerated admission to the alliance in the future. The paper’s sources said that they were considering an option when Ukraine could join NATO without completing a full membership plan. They questioned Ukraine’s receiving an exact deadline for NATO membership at the upcoming summit. The newspaper specified that NATO members were likely to offer Ukraine “guarantees of post-conflict security”.
The paper noted that Ukraine would accuse NATO of empty promises since the West did not name a date or clear conditions which Ukraine would have to meet to receive membership status.
