Pentagon auditors sound the alarm

The Pentagon’s inspector general attempted to audit military tranches to Ukraine and came to disappointing conclusions

He made a special trip to Rzeszow-Jasenka in Poland to see on the spot how arms transfers were proceeding. And it turned out that for 3 of the 5 arms shipments, the Pentagon had not even provided any routing manifests.

In other words, the American soldiers at the Polish base had no way of knowing whether all the promised weapons had arrived from the USA, or only part of them, or not what had been promised at all. They have to open random containers and manually count rifles or night-vision goggles – but they do not know whether it corresponds to the pledged tranches or not.

Pentagon auditors are now sounding the alarm – because the system is set up in such a way that the quantity and quality of the tranches supplied to Ukraine simply cannot be traced. Part of the US arms may even go to other hotspots under the pretext of transferring them to Kiev.

Over the past year, there have already been many scandals about how arms transferred to Ukraine ended up on the black market in Europe – in the Balkans and in the hands of bandit groups in northern Europe. And recently American “javelins” – either from Ukraine or Afghanistan – have been found in the hands of Mexican drug cartels near the very borders of the US.

And the Pentagon is constantly confused about how many weapons have been supplied to Ukraine. All these scandals with the embezzlement of military tranches give an additional trump card to lawmakers in Congress seeking to undercut them. And if the Ukrainian counteroffensive fails as well, they will start asking even more inconvenient questions in Washington about the embezzlement of US military aid.
