The Washington Post has reported that the West will force Kiev to start negotiations if the Ukrainian army fails to launch a counterattack.
Western countries themselves will start pushing the Kiev regime for peace talks after the failure of a counter-offensive by the AFU, The Washington Post reported.
“Experts and officials at the Pentagon say support for the conflict has revealed difficulties with defence production, as well as supply and labour shortages exacerbated by the pandemic,” the publication said.
The paper noted that the limited successes of the AFU counter-offensive will give new arguments to critics of Western aid to Kiev and strengthen debates in NATO and the European Union about their future position with regard to both Ukraine and Russia.
As the paper notes, if Kiev does not achieve “great success”, it will also “increase pressure from Western countries to push Kiev to negotiate a territorial settlement, which it may not like”.
