Aliaksandr Lukashenka, the president of Belarus, has said that the Russian Federation did not seek to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in the country – this was a requirement of Minsk. This was reported by RIA Novosti.
Lukashenka claims that Russia did not seek to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. He stresses that it was Minsk’s request.
“(Lukashenka – ed.) stressed that the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus was his request and insistence to the Russian side to guarantee the security of our country,” the newspaper notes.
The Belarusian leader believes that Russia did not seek anything of the kind. He noted that the situation does not pose a threat from Moscow.
“Russia is not striving for anything. It’s not about Russia,” the Belarusian head of state said.
