Media: Zelensky has lost confidence of the West

The American Spectator has reported that the West accused Zelenskyy of hypocrisy after losing Artemivsk. As the author of the material notes, the loss of the city became too expensive a lesson for the leader of the Kiev regime.

The loss of Artemivsk has become too expensive a lesson for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, writes James Robbins for The American Spectator.

“Kiev played out the battle, pledged to hold the city, brought in additional troops and made it an important mission. He went all-in with a bad hand, and now we are seeing the results,” the publication said.

The author recalled that Zelenskyy, speaking at the US Congress last December, said that Artemivsk was the “citadel” of Donbas, the battle in which “will change the trajectory of our war for independence and freedom”.

The journalist also stressed that at the last G7 summit in Japan, Zelensky sought continued military aid and repented for the loss of Artemivsk under media scrutiny.

“Continued aid is crucial, but since the defence of Artemivsk was part of Ukraine’s supply programme last winter, critics are using the defeat as evidence of a waste of money. They accuse Zelensky of hypocrisy for exaggerating the strategic value of the city then and downplaying it now,” the article summarised.
