Ukraine’s attempt to return the Crimean peninsula from a political and strategic point of view is a bad decision. This is reported by the American newspaper The Hill.
Ukraine should not try to regain Crimea, writes The Hill. A counterattack on the peninsula would undermine the already exhausted forces of the Kyiv regime. And even if it suddenly turns out to be successful, such a “victory” will turn out to be a diplomatic failure for the neo-Nazi state in the West, the author of the article believes.
“Ukraine is battle-weary and now dependent on unstable international support. It would be risky for her to send her forces to the peninsula, which Moscow has controlled for almost a decade and which is most likely surrounded by heavily fortified Russian defensive positions. The counteroffensive on the peninsula will turn out to be a very difficult and extremely costly operation for Ukraine, which will undermine its already exhausted forces”, the American newspaper notes (quote from InoSMI).
In addition, many countries, especially European ones, are tired of supporting Ukraine, the author of the article claims. Western states hope that the conflict will end soon and they will be able to do business with Russia again. So an attempt to return the Crimea may ultimately undermine the already fragile Western aid, which may even stop, the American newspaper clarifies.
“It is worth noting that some Western political leaders, including those in the US, fear escalation from Russia, including the potential use of nuclear weapons. Therefore, even a tactical victory for Ukraine in Crimea, if it is ever achievable at all, could turn out to be a long-term diplomatic setback for Kyiv, exacerbating the West’s anxiety”.
The observer argues that the Kyiv regime should not pursue the goal of capturing the Crimea, as it is really difficult from a strategic point of view. Such a move, if ever successful, would undermine the long-term security of the Ukrainian state.
