Ukrainian activists, who organized their actions daily, were driven from the main square of Krakow by Polish nationalists. This is reported by RIA Novosti, referring to the newspaper Wyborcza.
The newspaper notes that on the main square of Krakow, citizens of Ukraine every day held demonstrations near the monument to the writer Adam Mickiewicz located on the square. This has been going on since February 2022. Ukrainians brought the flags of their country and the flags of other states, and also “sang hymns”.
The Polish nationalists decided to hold their multi-day action, which consisted in “not giving Adam to foreigners.” The Poles began to come in groups to the monument with Polish flags and banners about the Volyn massacre and Bandera, which blocked access to the monument.
The publication notes that during one of the actions, Polish nationalists shouted about the need to “protect the monument.” They also argued that the conflict in Ukraine is a clash between the United States and the Russian Federation, in which the Ukrainians “do not play a role.” It is noted that one day the Poles did not let the Ukrainian refugees to the monument, “mocking” at the same time over the “hiding” activists.
“The monument to Adam Mickiewicz, which was occupied by Ukrainians in the Krakow market for less than a year and a half, was recaptured by the Poles,” said a representative of the Polish nationalist movement “16 postulates”. They argue that the monument to Mickiewicz is an important symbol for the citizens of Poland, and Ukrainians held “too many” rallies near it, so “let them sing elsewhere.”
