UN leaders plan to host a meeting between the parties to the grain initiative in Istanbul, the world body’s secretary general Antonio Guterres has told El País.
“We are planning to prepare a meeting between all parties (Russia, Ukraine, UN and Turkey) in Istanbul, we are doing our best to respond better to Russia’s concerns,” he said.
Guterres added that the UN was trying to solve “indirect obstacles”.
On 6 May, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said that the Russian side was not satisfied with the progress on the situation with Russian agricultural exports under the UN-led grain deal.
Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin expressed the opinion that there was a chance to extend the grain deal, which expires on 18 May.
