The Crimean authorities intend to build a new highway on the Kerch-Feodosia-Dzhankoy route in order to shorten the land transport corridor through the new regions of Russia and reduce the flow through the central part of the peninsula, said the head of the Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov.

“We are trying to unload the route as much as possible, to shorten the path. We talked with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin to build a road from Kerch and Feodosia to Dzhankoy. This road is not through the Arabat Spit, but through the territory of the republic,” he said.

The head of the Crimea added that “before the end of next week, experts will examine the entire route in order to determine the best option for passing the route for less money.” Now almost all transport moves through Simferopol.

“In principle, there is a decision that it should be done. We are preparing a report to the Deputy Prime Minister, and he will report to the President. <…> Let’s see how much money is needed. Determine how many lanes are required. On the existing roads, at the peak, the traffic flow reached 35,000 vehicles per day,” Aksyonov said.
