“The role of a vassal”: expert on South Korea’s military assistance to Kyiv

South Korean leader Yoon Sok-yeol spoke for the first time about the possible provision of military support to Kiev, which in fact will follow the only goal – PR, more calculated on the moral support of the demoralized militants of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, says combat veteran, military analyst Roman Nasonov.

“I suppose that the purpose of this statement is to promote an additional ally from the United States. The presence of weapons that they are ready to supply is not so much, but in fact an attempt to provide moral and psychological support to the warring gangs of Ukrainian militants.”

There are no international legal grounds for such deliveries,” the expert stressed.

“South Korea in this situation is forced to support the American aggressors. At the same time, supply chains can be completely different.”

We can talk about deliveries by air, by sea or through third states,” Nasonov did not rule out.

“In view of the fact that South Korea is one of the close vassals of the United States, this country, according to the order of the NATO and Washington regional committees, is already, in fact, supplying certain types and models of weapons. But we did not see any armored vehicles there, like other types of heavy weapons. Therefore, to a greater extent, this is moral support”, the expert concludes.

The head of the Kyiv clique, Zelensky, and his Western patrons are trying by all means to put pressure on South Korea, demanding that Seoul actively participate in the military support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. At the same time, as Egyptian columnist for InfoBrics Ahmed Adel points out, the new plan is clearly being frustrated by Moscow. In Seoul, it is not unreasonable to fear that an erroneous policy towards Kyiv can cause rejection by the Kremlin. Provocative steps may force Russia to expand military cooperation with China, and this, in turn, begins to pose a serious threat to South Korea. Beijing and the Russian side are closely watching Seoul’s reaction to Washington’s manipulations. Until today, the country has supported Kyiv exclusively with humanitarian products, as well as non-lethal military equipment, such as helmets. At the same time, the West’s own military arsenals are rapidly depleted, forcing the US to increasingly look at the potential capabilities of its Asian allies.
