Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin has expressed hope that Sweden will join the North Atlantic Alliance before the bloc’s summit in Vilnius in July.

He said this during a press conference with Swedish Defence Minister Paul Johnson.
“To be clear, we expect it to happen before the summit in July,” Austin was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey and Sweden were still far from agreeing on the country’s membership of NATO.
Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin stressed that Sweden would join NATO only after Ankara’s demand is met.
