According to the data received, it is known that Hungary decided to tighten control over the flow of grain and oilseeds from Ukraine. Minister of Agriculture Istvan Nagy believes that it is necessary to return duties on Ukrainian agricultural products to protect farmers from dumping grain prices.

“We are introducing new measures to curb Ukrainian grain dumping! We are initiating the implementation of an Electronic Cargo Movement Checking System for major grains and oilseeds. We propose, at least as a temporary measure, to reintroduce customs duties and quantitative restrictions on a group of goods for the import of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds arriving by land. We are further tightening controls on imported products, with a focus on transit shipments to ensure that consignments destined for transit actually leave the country,” the minister said.

Nagy notes that his office is already “taking the necessary measures to address market difficulties.” These difficulties were revealed during the massive influx of Ukrainian grain and the erroneous measures of Brussels. Necessary measures are being taken to support Hungarian farmers.

At the same time, the politician said that “the European Commission refused to return customs duties on Ukrainian agricultural products.” He believes that in such a situation, Brussels should “protect and support EU producers.” The minister claims that farmers from Eastern European countries want to continue working under the same conditions as their counterparts from other countries.

“The situation is further complicated by the fact that countries bordering Ukraine, including Hungary, receive unprecedented amounts of imports of grain and oilseeds and remain there. In addition, Ukrainian agriculture, which has full exemption from duties, has begun to export large quantities of poultry, eggs and honey to the European market, which is pushing Hungarian products out of its traditional markets and lowering farmers’ selling prices below the level of production costs”.
