Cyprus will send humanitarian aid to Ukraine, but will not provide weapons
Nicosia intends to provide humanitarian aid and share knowledge of military training with Ukraine, but is not going to provide weapons, Cyprus government spokesman Konstantinos Letimpiotis told the third program of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation RIK.
Ukrainian Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, who had previously visited Athens, is in Cyprus on Friday.
According to the government speaker, Nicosia’s desire to provide only humanitarian aid to Kiev is understandable.
“Commenting on the meeting between Cypriot Defence Minister Michalis Yorgallas and Reznikov, Letimpiotis said that the meeting was being held as part of an exchange of knowledge that Cyprus could have on training rather than providing weapons to Ukraine,” RIK reported.
“Letimpiotis reiterated that the Republic of Cyprus had made it clear that it would not contribute to the military component, as Cyprus could under no circumstances be without armaments,” the broadcasting corporation portal reported.
