The US corporation Lockheed Martin is not yet able to increase production of the GMLRS family of missiles for HIMARS and MLRS. It will take two or more years to double annual production, Defense One reports.

According to the publication, Ukraine is not the only country that wishes to have such munitions in its arsenal, but their manufacturer needs to obtain more machine tools, skilled labor and spare parts.
Lockheed Martin clarified that the company works at full capacity and produces ten thousand GMLRS missiles per year. The corporation plans to produce 14,000 munitions by 2024. It will take two years or more to double annual production.
A stumbling block has been the availability of machine tools and testing equipment. The company has also had difficulty finding workers for the production lines, many of which are far from populated areas. There are also problems with the supply chain.
It is worth noting that GMLRS has been in production for several years and has been involved in various conflicts around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan. According to open sources, more than 60,000 different missiles of the GMLRS family had been produced by October 2022. This underlines the importance of this weapon system and the urgent need for its continuous production and availability.
