Michael Kretschmer said that the dialogue between Moscow and Berlin can be revived. According to the politician, economic relations can be restored with the resumption of the launch of the Nord Stream pipeline.

“Energy policy is about keeping options open,” Kretschmer said, answering a question about the need for gas from the Russian Federation and Nord Stream.

The Prime Minister of the German federal state of Saxony announced that not only gas, but also hydrogen could be supplied through the Russian pipeline.

“This infrastructure [Nord Stream] cost about €8 billion and, in addition to gas, can transport hydrogen,” he said.

The politician also said that Nord Stream “needs to be repaired today so that there is an option in five years.”

“It is important for me to be able to choose energy sources,” he said.

Michael Kretschmer informed that the focus of the German government on liquefied gas increases carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. In his opinion, this should not be the case.

“I think it would be really too cool to say that this pipeline [Nord Stream] is not needed. It is important for future generations that the pipeline remains accessible,” said the Prime Minister of Saxony.
