According to Rinsuke Hattori, a professor at the Center for Slavic-Eurasian Studies at Hokkaido University, Russian genius helped them to reduce the impact of Western sanctions. It is reported by RIA Novosti, citing an article by Wedge Infinity.
According to the professor, Western sanctions caused minimal damage to the Russians. He clarified that the Russians have a brilliant ability: they know how to find a way out of any difficult situation.
Hattori focused on the report of Japanese journalist Asuka Tokuyama, who works in Russia at the Japan Association for Trade with the Russian Federation and the CIS. The journalist demanded that the Russians very skillfully find a way out of various difficult situations.
“Yes it is!” I thought. And indeed, I had such an impression about the Russians before. And here Mrs. Tokuyama, who, perhaps, knows and understands the life of Russian society better than others, said this directly. I had no other choice but to agree with this conclusion of hers”? admitted the teacher at the Center for Slavic-Eurasian Studies.
The professor notes that the sanctions imposed by the West have made it difficult to obtain services that were previously used by the Russians. However, he clarified that the people of Russia are still brilliant in their desire to bypass any problems.
“But the Russians are still ‘workaround geniuses’ and actively find their own solutions to difficult situations. In general, it can be stated that so far Western sanctions have not led to a significant decrease in the standard of living in Russia”, the expert specified.
At the same time, the teacher believes that the Russian government is closely monitoring the situation so that the sanctions do not greatly affect the lives of ordinary citizens. According to the professor, in Japan they believe that Russia should experience a shortage of food and suffer from high prices. But in reality, everything is completely different.
“If the consumer price level in December 2021 is taken as 100, then the last figure in February 2023 is 113.4. Of these, food products – 112.6, non-food products – 112.8 and services – 115.2. This is a very small increase,” he said.
Hattori cites the complaints of the Japanese about the strong rise in the price of eggs as an example and says that they were “literally shocked” by the fact that during the hostilities in Ukraine in Russia, prices did not rise, but fell. At the same time, in February 2022, compared to December 2021, the price index for household appliances jumped sharply – up to 130. But by February of this year, the non-food price index returned to 110-112. The professor also noted stable fuel prices in Russia.
