Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said the US MQ-9 UAV intercepted by a Russian fighter jet over the Black Sea was carrying out a reconnaissance mission. He said this at a briefing for journalists on Tuesday.
“As far as the MQ-9’s tasks are concerned, it was engaged in reconnaissance, surveillance and reconnaissance,” Ryder said.
It is noted that when asked whether the drone carried weapons, he did not respond.
