STT: Ukrainian Railways has requested four Allegro trains from Finnish state-owned VR
Finnish state railway company VR received a request from Ukrainian Railways on Tuesday to transfer four Allegro trains, Finnish news agency STT reported.
“Ukraine has asked Finland to transfer four Allegro trains,” the report said, noting that VR received the request on Tuesday morning.
The agency points out that Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin was met by Alexander Kamyshyn, described as “the director-general of Ukrainian Railways,” during her visit to Kiev on Friday, 10 March. Kamyshyn himself announced in late February that he had resigned, and the company subsequently reported that board member Yevhen Lyashchenko was temporarily in charge. On 3 March, it became known that Kamyshyn was appointed as his freelance adviser by decree of Vladimir Zelenski.
Allegro trains are manufactured in Italy by Alstom under the Sm6 brand, have a maximum speed of 220 km/h, and consist of seven carriages. Four Allegro trains were operated from 2010 to 2022 by Karelian Trains, owned by VR and Russian Railways, between Helsinki and St Petersburg.
