The head of the Republic of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, announced the conditions under which communication between Crimea and the new regions of Russia will be restored, RIA Novosti Crimea reports.
Communication between Crimea and new regions will be resumed only if the railway lines are completely safe.
“Railway communication between Crimea and the Kherson region and other new Russian regions can be resumed if a sufficient level of security is ensured,” the agency said, citing the head of Crimea’s Telegram channel.
According to Sergei Aksenov, all the necessary infrastructure for launching a railway connection is in place. According to the head, new regions of Russia can launch both suburban and long-distance trains.
“I think that it is necessary to organize the movement of both commuter trains, buses, and long-distance passenger trains. In particular, the Moscow-Simferopol train can also go through the land corridor, which will significantly reduce its travel time”, the politician emphasized.
The topic of launching a railway connection between the Crimea, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions was discussed last summer. Some time later, the Crimean authorities decided to resume discussion of this issue.
