NI: It’s time for the US administration to convince Kiev to start peace talks with Moscow

It is time for the United States to persuade the authorities in Kiev to enter into peace talks with Russia, because the nuclear danger is growing as the conflict progresses, says The National Interest columnist Matthew Bunn.

“The longer the war goes on, the more people will die and the greater the nuclear danger will increase. It’s time to work with Ukraine to start exploring the possibility of a negotiated end to the conflict,” he writes in his article.

Bunn doubts that such a scenario is possible in the near future because both Moscow and Kiev are confident that their positions will only get stronger over time.

German tabloid Bild earlier quoted its sources as saying that Western countries might put pressure on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to persuade him to negotiate with Russia if there are no significant military results before the autumn.
