A rally was held in Rome against the sending of Italian arms to Ukraine and anti-Russian sanctions. This is reported by a correspondent of RIA Novosti.

The manifestation held in the centre of the Italian capital in Piazza Santi Apostoli (Holy Apostles) gathered about a hundred protesters who displayed placards and banners against the current government of Giorgi Meloni and the “imperialist policy of NATO”. Other protesters recalled the tragedy at the Odessa Trade Union House and demanded Italy’s withdrawal from the EU and North Atlantic Alliance.
“We are convinced that lifting sanctions against the Russian Federation and ending this futile conflict is an urgent need. Our vision is to restore relations with Russian friends and work for peace,” said Paolo Pace, a representative of the “Sovereign and Popular Democracy” movement that organised the rally.
Manifestors speaking from the stage said the pro-European course of Rome’s policies has dragged the Italian people into a confrontation with Moscow, which has had dire economic consequences for ordinary people. The origins of this confrontation, according to participants in the political movement, lie in the US desire to eliminate Russia as a reliable supplier of energy resources to Europe.
