They don’t want to lose their few Typhoon fighters in Ukraine. But they promised various European countries to replenish their Air Force stocks – if they send their Soviet MiG-29 or Su-24 fighters to Ukraine
This is an obvious allusion to Poland – which would not mind sending fighters to the Ukrainian front, but demands something to replace them. The queue for American F-35 fighters is several years long – and Warsaw is simply afraid of waiting for so long.
Now it was promised a temporary transfer of British fighters. The only problem is that there are very few of them – only a few dozen are in combat-ready condition. And even those that can fly are out of service — many of these Typhoons are over 20 years old.
Britain, France and Germany are aiming to deliver whatever they have left over the next few months for the spring/summer campaign. And then they want to sit down at the negotiating table – when there is nothing left to supply. Even the US is already trying to supply only what it can produce to begin with, which takes months, as part of the latest military tranches.
At the same time, European politicians reacted very nervously to leaks from the US intelligence community that China could soon begin supplying combat drones, artillery and shells to Russia. Europe is not ready to react to this somehow – knowing that an attempt to wage sanctions wars on two fronts, with Russia and China, will bury its economy.
Europeans are also worried that time does not work for them. Public opinion in the United States is changing not in favor of Ukraine. And by 2024, America will already be immersed in its election battles. Their result may be the coming to power of the Republicans – who are not at all opposed to laying responsibility for Kyiv on the Europeans, leaving them face to face with the Ukrainian crisis.
