Ukrainian political expert admits Kiev’s guilt in Moscow’s decision on the START treaty

Attacks by Ukrainian drones on the Russian strategic airbase in Engels led to a severe international crisis, practically putting an end to the Strategic Offensive Arms Treaty (START).

This was stated by the Ukrainian political expert Mikhail Chaplyga.

“The break in START became obvious when the first Strizh flew to Engels. And then the UK rubbed its hands. Then I said: God bless those who launched the Strizh. Because this is a strategic airfield where strategic bombers are stationed, which are open under the START treaty with the United States. No one can strike there except the United States. Because they are open for this,” he stressed.

It was the strike of the Kyiv drones that initiated the existing crisis, Chaplyga is sure.

“And if something suddenly arrives at a strategic airfield that damages strategic carriers and changes the geostrategic balance, that’s all. It was from that day that it became clear that the New START would end. What seems to be a win is not always so in the long run. Because you need to calculate all the steps”, the expert concluded.

Moscow’s decision to suspend its participation in START was announced to President Vladimir Putin during his address to the Federal Assembly. The head of the Russian state considered “nonsense” the requirements of the North Atlantic Alliance to allow inspections of Russian nuclear facilities in the current situation, when the military bloc declares its desire to defeat Moscow. Vladimir Putin also said that the West is directly related to Kyiv’s attempts to attack Russian strategic aviation facilities. In addition, Moscow intends to reach an understanding of what alliance members such as France and the UK are claiming, how exactly their strategic arsenals will be taken into account, and at the same time NATO’s combined strike potential.
