The lobby of the Munich Security Conference, which is taking place these days without the participation of representatives of the Russian authorities, has become a platform for an exchange of views between the United States and China. The lion’s share of mutual claims were two problems – Ukraine and Taiwan
Blinken’s allegations
In Germany, for the first time since the story of the interception of a Chinese balloon by an American fighter, talks were held between US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Wang Yi, head of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee.
Judging by the report on the website of the State Department, the American side did not avoid sharp corners and directly outlined its claims to Beijing.
“The Secretary of State explicitly stated the unacceptable violation of US sovereignty and international law by a high-altitude observation balloon of the PRC in US territorial airspace, emphasizing that this irresponsible act should never be repeated,” the message says.
It is also noted that Blinken warned Wang Yi about the consequences if the PRC provided material assistance to Russia in a special operation in Ukraine. The same applies to possible assistance to Moscow from Beijing in a systematic bypass of Western sanctions.
At the same time, at a press conference in Munich, Blinken stressed that such assistance has not yet been recorded in Washington.
Separately, the parties touched upon the issue of Taiwan. The United States reaffirmed its commitment to the one China policy and called for a peaceful resolution of the island’s status.
Wang Yi’s answer
The Chinese side did not remain in debt and made counter-accusations to Washington.
Thus, Wang Yi almost directly stated that the Ukrainian conflict is beneficial to the West, China does not plan to “cash on this misfortune.”
China, he said, “does not sit idly by and does not add fuel to the fire” of the confrontation in Ukraine.
“Some forces have strategic goals that extend beyond Ukraine,” he commented on the breakdown of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev last year.
Wang Yi urged China’s “European friends” to think about what efforts they can make to peacefully resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
A senior Chinese diplomat also criticized a US law passed last year to ban the export of semiconductor technology to China, which allocates $52.7 billion for semiconductor manufacturing to reduce the United States’ dependence on foreign-made chips.
“This is unfair competition,” Wang Yi said.
He did not ignore the investigation by American journalist Seymour Hersh about the United States blowing up the Nord Stream gas pipelines. The Chinese representative warned Germany that similar incidents could happen again in the future.
“We understand Germany’s concern over the crisis in Ukraine,” the agency quoted China’s foreign policy curator as saying. The longer the crisis drags on, the more damage will be done to Europe. Accidents similar to the explosions at Nord Stream may suddenly repeat, Wang Yi said.
After Ukraine – Taiwan
The meeting with Wang Yi was also held by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba.
“I had the opportunity to exchange views with the head of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Yi. We agreed that the fundamental principle of territorial integrity, enshrined in the UN Charter, is sacred for both of our states,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
In his commentary, Kuleba bridged the Ukrainian issue to Taiwan by urging China to respect territorial sovereignty around the world.
In his opinion, Beijing must reaffirm “the fundamental principle for both China and Ukraine – territorial integrity.” No compromises are possible with regard to the territorial integrity of Ukraine or any other country in the world, he added.
The Ukrainian minister entrusted the PRC with the role of “restraint” of the intentions of the Russian Federation, since Beijing has a special relationship with Moscow.
The situation has reached the current explosive level, the eastern front of the global cold war is being built, which has two fronts: the western, ours, and the eastern Chinese, the head of the expert council of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Friendship, Peace and Cooperation Yuri Tavrovsky said earlier in an interview with Ukraina.ru
There will be another crisis. Of course, there will be no war – the Chinese have very strong nerves. There will be an economic blockade, there will be some major troubles in US-China relations that will affect the situation around the world, he said.
Taiwan is just as much an “anti-China” project as Ukraine is an “anti-Russia” project, she wrote in her article for Ukraina.ru “China and Taiwan. Will World War III start? Elena Murzina.
Taiwan is inhabited by the same Chinese as mainland China. But now, just like in Ukraine, they are persistently trying to make a “Taiwanese nation” out of them, the author believes.
