Chinese foreign ministry vows to take countermeasures in response to US sanctions over ballooning

Beijing has promised to take countermeasures in response to US sanctions against Chinese companies imposed by the US side over the ballooning situation, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin.

He stressed that the Chinese civilian balloon entered US airspace by mistake and it was an accident. In doing so, the diplomat said Washington overreacted and abused its power.

“China strongly opposes this and will take countermeasures in accordance with the law against the relevant US entities that harm China’s sovereignty and security,” he was quoted as saying by RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the US Department of Commerce imposed sanctions on six Chinese entities that the US authorities believe contribute to the development of the country’s aerospace industry, including the creation of aerostats.
