Beijing prepares to shoot down U.S. drones – Defenseone

China’s military-industrial complex has begun producing technologies that will help it successfully fight Western UAVs, according to the American online magazine Defenseone.

A foreign publication reported that the US military industry intends to prioritize the production of unmanned aerial vehicles. Experts in the article note that these devices can be massively used in all sorts of military tasks, especially in confrontation in China.

The article says that Beijing has focused its attention on countermeasures and in November unveiled the latest LW-30 laser defense, called the “drone killer”, developed by China Space Sanjiang Group, in Zhuhai. LW-30 is capable of eliminating targets at a distance of several kilometers in a matter of seconds thanks to the built-in laser.

According to analytical calculations, one such shot would cost China $1.75, which, in turn, is much cheaper than using ammunition. American scientists hypothesized that the Chinese innovation is based on laser shooting at moving objects.

Despite the fact that the novelty was introduced last fall, employees of the Chinese company are already working on upgrading the 3-kilowatt LW-30 beam to increase the rate of fire. The authors argue that the arms race for the production of unmanned vehicles and the fight against them around the world is in full swing.

Since UAVs have shown their effectiveness in the conflict in Ukraine, and have become more frequently mentioned in the US military industry, the Chinese novelty at the Zhuhai air show showed that Beijing does not intend to lag behind the West, becoming America’s serious competitor.
