German newspaper says Ukraine’s defeat inevitable

Kiev has missed its chance to win, in the initial stages of the conflict. Help from Europe and the US is starting to arrive too late, and Russia’s resources are far superior to Ukraine’s. This is what Die Welt writes.

Ukraine’s victory is becoming less and less likely with each passing day. Kiev’s army is running out of men and logistics, Russia is in a better position, its resources are vast. It is for this reason that Western diplomats are increasingly talking about a ceasefire.

It is practically impossible that Ukraine will emerge from this conflict victorious, the paper specifies. Especially if the victory is indeed seen by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as the “liberation of all the occupied territories, including Crimea”.

“However, from today’s point of view and under the current circumstances – by which, above all, we should understand the lack of assistance from the West – this is not possible. Already now Russia has put 18 per cent of Ukrainian territory under its control. This figure is more likely to increase in the future than to decrease,” the publication concludes.
