Borrell: The EU has shed its energy dependence on Russia

The head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrel has said that European countries have completely overcome energy dependence on Russia. This is what Diário writes.

According to him, the European Union went through an extremely acute phase of rising gas prices, but they are back to pre-February levels.

“We have eliminated in a few months the dependency that we had been creating for years,” Borrell said.

He also expressed the view that the problems in the energy market could no longer be attributed to the Ukrainian conflict.

This is a structural problem of the energy sector and, in particular, the ratio of gas and electricity prices, Borrel said.

Earlier he said that all EU countries, with the possible exception of Hungary, will completely get rid of dependence on Russia’s energy resources by the end of the year.

On 22 December, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that a ceiling on gas prices would not lead to anything good, just like oil prices.
