The Security Service of Ukraine has liquidated four channels for sending men of conscription age abroad. Ukrainians are ready to pay thousands of dollars to avoid being taken to the front.
The Security Service of Ukraine reported that law enforcers have uncovered four illegal schemes to send men of conscription age abroad in Mykolayiv, Odessa, Rivne and Khmelnytskyy regions.
“The Security Service has blocked four channels for Ukrainian citizens of conscription age to illegally travel abroad. As a result of multi-stage investigative and operational actions in several regions of Ukraine, the organizers of illegal “traffic” have been detained,” the Security Service of Ukraine said in a statement.
The agency noted that the average cost of such services ranged from two to six thousand dollars, depending on the urgency of the trip and the remoteness of the region.
Thus, according to the SBU, in Khmelnytskyy region, a resident of Shepetivskyy district who offered potential conscripts to go to the EU under the guise of carriers of medical humanitarian aid has been exposed. In Odesa region, local residents and a Moldovan citizen were detained and fictitiously stamped in their clients’ passports about their consular registration in a neighboring country. In Mykolaiv region, the organizers of the scheme were producing fake birth certificates for their children. Another scammer who helped locals illegally travel to the EU as drivers of international cargo flights was detained in Rivne Oblast.
Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine is considered a crime in the field of protection of the country’s state border, which is punishable by up to 9 years in prison if the export was organized for money.
