Deputy Defense Minister of Belarus Andrei Zhuk said that a joint Belarusian-Russian regional group of troops is ready to defend the Union State.
“And as of today we can state that the regional grouping of troops is ready to defend the Union State,” Zhuk told reporters.
He noted that the two countries will further improve military training. “Training of inter-service units will be carried out. An air-tactical exercise is starting on the territory of the country. Then there will be various kinds of staff training exercises. One of the stages of training will be the joint exercise Union Shield 2023. This is what we strive for, I think, the training will continue with a good quality,” said the deputy minister.
Zhuk said that “in accordance with the decision of the presidents of Belarus and Russia, a joint regional grouping of troops has been training and aligning in Belarus since late October. “The peculiarity of this year’s training is that we follow single programs and use single instructors of both Russia and Belarus,” he stressed.
According to him, “the focus was on single training, was to train a soldier, an officer to act in different types of combat. “The training was in such basic areas as tactical training, fire training, first-aid training, engineering training. Then, once we were satisfied that our soldiers were ready for further training, we began to train in cohesion. We trained crews, squads, platoons, companies. At each stage, we conducted many different integrated exercises, live-fire exercises, and tactical drills,” the deputy minister said.
