Erdogan says he intends to hold a joint meeting with Putin and Assad

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that he proposed to Russian leader Vladimir Putin to hold a trilateral meeting with the participation of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. This was reported by TASS, citing the TRT TV channel.

On his return from the city of Turkmenbashi, where the Turkish president attended a meeting of the heads of Turkey, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan, he told reporters from his pool that he intended to hold a trilateral meeting with the Russian and Syrian heads.

“This requires a meeting of the secret services, then the defence ministers and then the foreign ministers. Based on the results of these discussions, it will be possible to talk about a meeting of the leaders. I proposed this to Mr. Putin, and he took the initiative positively. This will start a series of talks,” he said.

Erdogan said “Ankara is in favour of joint steps by Russia, Turkey and Syria”, commenting on Turkey’s plans for a ground operation in Syria.
