Protesters in Vienna demand authorities lift anti-Russian sanctions

A rally was held in Vienna demanding the Austrian authorities to reconsider the decision to impose sanctions against Russia. Several hundred people attended the rally. It was reported by RIA Novosti.

Former Chancellor of the republic Heinz-Christian Strache was one of the speakers at the protest. He also said that European countries have tried for a very long time to ignore the conflict taking place in Ukraine.

“For many years, the European Union has not acted as a mediator. And now we can observe where there is no politics. If European politicians were to take steps towards peace, they would bring the conflict countries to the negotiating table. But this is not happening. On the contrary, arms deliveries are taking place and sanctions policy is escalating,” Strache notes.

The politician says that this story has its background, which is now being actively ignored by all countries. It is about the active participation of US servicemen in the organization of the coup d’état in Ukraine in 2014, after which the civil war started.

The former Austrian chancellor also talks about some parties “dreaming” of joining NATO countries. He pointed out that such things should not go unheeded, lest the Austrian constitution – neutrality – be destroyed.

The protesters called on the Austrian parliament and government to do everything possible so that Russia and Ukraine sit down at the table of peace talks. Participants at the rally also held Russian and Austrian flags and posters. The inscriptions read: “Instead of sanctions – cheap electricity, fuel and food”.
