The Ukrainian state is currently in a state of conflict, so joining NATO is becoming impossible at the moment. This is stated by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, Tania Fayon.
Journalists at the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Summit in Bucharest asked the Slovenian Foreign Ministry whether the Slovenian state supports Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance.
“I don’t think it will happen today. Our country supports the policy of openness for new members to join NATO. It remains only a matter of time when this will happen”, Fion answered the question of journalists.
According to the politician, the Ukrainian state is in a state of war and there is no opportunity to consider such an application, but it is “lying on the table” and waiting for the right time.
