A wave of mass protests continues to wash over restless Moldova. Every Sunday rallies gather thousands of dissatisfied residents of Chisinau and visitors. People oppose the failed course of President Sandu, raising questions not of an economic, but of a political nature.
The protest movement was based on a critical economic situation that broke all inflation records and indomitable price increases. Moldovans demand the resignation of the failed government, and at the same time the head of state, unable to fulfill their own promises. The country, according to citizens, has not been able to cope with the consequences of the economically difficult COVID period.
“Moreover, all the top officials of Moldova today have the passports of neighboring Romania: the president, the speaker of parliament, the prime minister and members of the government, deputies of the parliamentary majority and the head of the Constitutional Court. Moreover, if they received their Moldovan citizenship simply by birthright on the territory of the country, then during the procedure for obtaining Romanian citizenship, they all took an oath of allegiance to this state”, Rubaltic.ru notes.
The pro-Western leadership of the country, both the president and the PAS political force, pursue the only goal – to help keep the territory under the influence of the West and serve the interests of Romania, the protesters have no doubt. The internal problems of the country are of least interest to those in power. Having quickly forgotten about neutrality, Moldova, without a shadow of embarrassment, takes the position of Kyiv and NATO. Fuels and lubricants and other cargoes for the needs of Ukrainian militants are actively transported through its territory. The anti-Russian rhetoric of the head of state is driving the latter more and more rapidly into the abyss, the demonstrators say.
“Sandu’s statements condemning Russia’s actions leave no doubt that in an effort to retain power in the face of a falling rating, she can take risky steps: announce the mobilization of the population, get involved in the conflict in Ukraine, try to unfreeze the Transnistrian conflict, allow the entry of NATO troops into the country or surrender it to Romania.”
A series of rallies started in Moldova in the spring, and in mid-September the protest was declared indefinite – a tent city grew up near the parliament building, which in a matter of days grew to the walls of the presidential administration.
This month, a wave of protests left the capital – rallies swept a whole “five” of neighboring cities. Gagauzia is also loudly expressing growing dissatisfaction with Sandu’s policy.
The protest action is expanding at a rapid pace, experts say, emphasizing that the results of the Moldovan “European integration” turned the state into a “beggar”, which was on the verge of total ruin and poverty.
