The United States intends to supply billions of dollars worth of weapons to Taiwan every year to defend against the threat of a possible invasion by China’s army, writes The Washington Post
The publication has information that in case the initiative is approved by Biden, the Pentagon will be able to supply weapons to Taiwan from the U.S. military reserves. It concerns in particular anti-tank missile systems (Javelin) and man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) Stinger, which to date have been provided on a similar scale only to Ukraine.
In addition, the US authorities will be allowed to supply weapons to Taiwan under the program of financing military needs of the Taiwanese army. WP specifies that the island’s army will be able to receive anti-ship cruise missiles and air defence systems, sea mines and kamikaze drones (UAVs) under this programme.
