At the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the National Bank opened an account to which Ukrainians and people from other countries can deposit funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
At that time, donations in various currencies came from all over the world, however, Forbes writes, enthusiasm quickly faded and the rate of contributions decreased significantly.
70% of the total amount of UAH 21.7 billion was credited to a special account by April 19, that is, less than two months after the start of the special operation in Ukraine. The worst month in terms of donations to the Ukrainian Armed Forces was August. In September, the amount of contributions increased, but amounted to only 8% of the proceeds in April.
Contributions in foreign currency totaled UAH 7.4 billion. Of this amount, most funds were transferred in five currencies: US dollar (56%), euro (23%), British pound (14%), Polish zloty (6%) and Swiss franc (1%).
