Germany returns to the stone age without Russian energy resources

German electric utility Steag intends to provide 2.5 GW of additional coal-fired generating capacity by the end of October to bolster Germany’s energy security during the winter months, the company said in a statement cited by Montel.

The company will return to the market on October 28 the Bexbach unit (726 MW) and on October 31 the Weiher unit (656 MW), which were in reserve, ensuring the stability of the network. Steag will also keep its Bergkamen (717 MW) units in the Ruhr and the MKV (179 MW) and HKV (211) units in Völklingen-Fenne on the market, which were to be decommissioned.
