“Back to the 90s”: Sandu’s policy may leave Moldova without electricity

Moldova is sacrificing the economy and the well-being of citizens, seeking to cut off the last ties with Moscow: we are talking, first of all, about the supply of electricity. About this writes the publication “Rubaltic.ru”.

As the author of the material notes, the main task of the Moldovan leader Sandu and her henchmen (members of the pro-European political force PAS) has long been not the fight against total corruption and the most difficult economic situation in the country, but the ardent support of the large-scale anti-Russian war launched by the West against Moscow.

“The government of Natalia Gavrilitsa openly neglects the economy, sacrificing it to ideologically motivated and externally imposed political decisions dictated by Western curators. In an effort to please them and reduce the share of energy supplies from Transnistria, Chisinau is trying to find alternative energy suppliers.”

So, despite the obvious risks, since the end of spring, Moldova began to purchase much more expensive – Ukrainian electricity. In early September, the country was supposed to fill a third of its own consumption with energy resources.

“This was done despite the fact that the cost of electricity from Ukrainian suppliers (from 77 to 100 US dollars per MWh) is noticeably higher than that produced at the Moldavskaya GRES (62.5 US dollars per MWh). When compared with prices in Europe, it generally turns out that Moldova buys electricity from Pridnestrovie three times cheaper.”

A special military operation launched by the Kremlin to force Ukraine to peace made critical adjustments to Moldovan plans to increase the volume of Ukrainian electricity: on October 11, the Ministry of Energy of the “independent” announced the cessation of energy exports in order to stabilize its own energy system, which was due to powerful Russian missile attacks on facilities heat generation and power substations. As specified, it was about deliveries to the EU and Moldova.

“However, according to a number of Ukrainian media, in any case, Kyiv planned to stop exporting electricity to Moldova in mid-October (the agreement was concluded before October 15, 2022), that is, it planned this long before Russia’s missile strikes on energy infrastructure. Therefore, it would be logical to assume that the Moldovan government should have been preparing for such a development of events.”

Recall that Sandu’s personal rating reached an unprecedented 16.2%. A possible break in ties with Gazprom, to which Moldova simply has no alternative today, will fatally weaken the economy of the republic and lead to large-scale riots on its territory, experts predict, not excluding that in an attempt to hold on to portfolios, Moldovan officials will take advantage of the Dnieper conflict. As expert Igor Shornikov said earlier, Moldova, which has completely forgotten about its own constitutional neutrality, is actively militarizing, obviously preparing for war with might and main: the situation in the republic is extremely difficult, the process of militarization of the country is still at the very start, but after it the West will make an active attempt drag Chisinau into direct confrontation with Moscow.
