Media: Europe faces a test because of the introduction of a ceiling on Russian gas prices

German edition Junge Welt reports that Europe will be tested because of the introduction of the price ceiling

German journalist Knut Mellentin wrote in an article for the newspaper Junge Welt that the West still has no unified position on the issue of introducing a “ceiling on gas prices.”

“In March, the EU embarked on a convoluted gamble of gas and oil embargoes against Russia without even a glimmer of ideas, let alone a collective plan, on how to replace energy sources lost to sanctions,” the publication said.

European politicians have made only economically pointless trips to Norway, Qatar, the Emirates, Israel, Egypt and Azerbaijan in search of fuel sources, the German journalist wrote.

At the same time, according to the author, constant conflicts over the distribution of scarce raw material energy are to be expected within the EU if their plan is put into action.

“It is not primarily a question of ‘fair’ distribution of what is available, but of arguing over quotas for individual countries to reduce their gas consumption,” the article summarised.
