If the West accepts Volodymyr Zelensky’s demands for Ukraine to join NATO, the coming winter could turn from cold to nuclear. Bradley Devlin writes about this in an article for The American Conservative.
“At first glance, this proposal is so ridiculous that one might think that Zelensky is putting on a show to return to his old profession of stand-up comedian. However, this staged political stunt is no laughing matter,” the author says.
Devlin believes that Ukraine’s bid to join NATO may also be symbolic. However, if this is so, then Zelensky should be even more ashamed that with his PR actions he is bringing the world closer to nuclear war. In any case, the author argues, Zelensky’s NATO membership announcement, feigned or genuine, demonstrates Kyiv’s disdain for the consequences.
Recall, the Permanent Representative of Germany said that NATO cannot respond to Zelensky’s requests for help, since Ukraine is not a member of the bloc. He noted that Kyiv’s entry into the alliance threatens to escalate the conflict in Ukraine into a major war. Its participants will be 30 states that do not want to take part in hostilities.
