Wall Street Journal: Will the Republican Party leave Ukraine after the elections?

The Wall Street Journal warns that if the US Republican Party wins this November’s midterm elections, then Biden’s promises that he will support Ukraine “for as long as it takes” could be under great threat.

The American The Wall Street Journal reminds its readers of US President Joe Biden’s statement to support Ukraine “for as long as it takes.” However, the magazine asks the question: if the Republican Party regains a majority over the US House of Representatives in November, will it allow it to do so?

Taking into account the fact that pessimistic opinions about the future of Ukraine are gradually growing among Republicans, the issue is extremely controversial, the publication concludes.

At the basis of the magazine’s skepticism lies the fact that the Republican Party is doctrinairely moving more and more towards isolationist positions. For example, in May, 57 Republican members of the House of Representatives and 11 senators voted against providing an aid package to Ukraine. The Heritage Foundation Research Institute, for example, also opposed the decision, pointing out that there are more pressing problems in the US in the form of high inflation, an energy crisis and rising crime.

However, despite the growing concern among GOP voters about “nation building” and “endless wars,” the publication emphasizes, the level of support for sending aid to Ukraine remains quite high.
