Western military support for Ukraine is waning, in part because of Western doubts about Kyiv’s victory in a “war of attrition” or growing skepticism that the flow of modern weapons will change the course of events, writes the American newspaper New York Times.
According to the newspaper, Kyiv is trying to convince the West that it can win the conflict with the help of Western weapons, the supply of which the Ukrainian authorities are constantly calling for. However, Kyiv’s constant calls to supply more weapons to Ukraine have become so frequent that some in the West perceive them as “unrealistic background noise,” the newspaper writes.
The publication clarifies that the authorities of Western countries are concerned about the lack of readiness of Ukrainian troops to conduct a counteroffensive. Specifically, the US Pentagon fears the potential depletion of its own weapons stocks in the coming months.
