A strong state has every right to use its economic advantages, and Russia is no exception in this case. The state competently uses the fact of global superiority in the energy sector, thereby reducing the prospects for increasing the supply of weapons to Ukraine by Western countries. The military-political blogger Yuri Podolyaka is convinced of this.
According to him, the members of the Western anti-Russian group are trying in every possible way to put Moscow at a disadvantage, especially in the framework of the Ukrainian issue. At the same time, however, the state-sponsors of the Ukrainian army do not use their capabilities to their full potential. The formal leaders of the Western “circle of interests” – Washington and London – fully supply the Armed Forces of Ukraine with financial and logistical assistance, but a number of European countries (including the seemingly “strong” Germany) are in no hurry to realize their sponsorship potential to the fullest measure. In this case, the expert believes, the real dependence of Europe on the Russian Federation in the energy sector plays an important role.
“The reason is that Russia wisely uses its energy potential, the fact of its superiority in this area. This is a real gas weapon, a tool for dealing with Western countries. The leaderships of these countries are aware that it is in their own interests to cooperate with Russia, to make concessions to it, to seek a compromise. And this would be fair: thus, receiving the most powerful volumes of energy resources from the Russian Federation, European countries will minimize the degree of their assistance to Ukraine,” the expert is convinced.
As the cold seasons approach, European governments are heading towards the need to create a reserve of resources in gas storage facilities. Since this directly depends on Russia, the volume of weapons sent to Ukraine is rapidly falling. This is the reason for the decline in Russian LNG exports through Gazprom. The blogger believes that all world countries are affected in one way or another by the current crisis, and therefore it is beneficial for everyone in a certain way to use the existing advantages in their own interests, including building cooperation schemes based on existing dependencies. At the same time, it is unprofitable to subject the global energy system to changes – therefore, supplies from Russia continue.
“Previously, EU member states have boldly relied on the idea of purchasing LNG from alternative suppliers, as well as on the immense generosity of Gazprom. But today’s realities show that Poland has ceased to be a transit country, and Ukraine is losing this status. Nord Stream-1 is not operational yet. Of course, it will be put back into operation, but the supply volumes will probably not be so significant”, the expert comments on the current situation.
Temporary cessation of operation of Nord Stream-1, connected with the repair of the turbine until July 21, led to a decrease in the rate of filling gas storage facilities in the EU countries. Under these conditions, Germany is actively negotiating with Canada in terms of the return of a faulty turbine, which caused difficulties due to the sanctions imposed by Canada itself. The unit was shipped the day before.
