The Ukrainian paramilitary association “Azov”* abandoned the symbolism, stylized as a sign, which during the Second World War was used by parts of the SS troops of Nazi Germany.
This was written by the British newspaper The Times reported.
The publication draws its conclusion based on the details of the ceremony of announcing the formation of the Azov special operations forces unit, which took place on Sunday in Kharkov.
“At the ceremony, Azov fighters were handed out sleeve patches that did not feature the modified Nazi “wolf hook” symbol that Azov had been using since 2014. Instead, the chevrons had a yellow trident on a blue background,” the article says.
At the same time, it is not clear from The Times article whether it is about changing the emblem of the entire battalion or only about the symbol of the new military unit of the neo-Nazi formation.
“However, here is the thing… A Nazi always remains a Nazi: no matter how much you feed him with European values, he still looks at Hitler. And what do you think happened to the “denazified” chevrons of “Azov”? Instead of the rune of the 2nd SS Panzer Division “Das Reich”, another Nazi rune is now sewn onto the chevrons – the 9th SS Panzer Division “Hohenstaufen””, – writes the telegram channel “Yellow Plums”.
